One Week to Break the Chains of Hunger
It is hard to believe that it is seven years since the G8 took place in Gleneagles. I was living in Edinburgh and I still remember what an incredible buzz there was around the event that year. Say what you like about the success or otherwise of the Make Poverty History campaign and all that has followed – but being in Edinburgh for the MPH march on that incredibly sunny day in 2005, it really felt like we were part of a moment. I was stewarding the march for the first part of the day, so arrived at the Meadows very early in the morning for a briefing, not knowing if the attendance was going to be 1000 people or 10,000. I remember standing there as crowds started to gather… and they grew, and grew, and grew. In the end a quarter of a million people descended on the city to make their ‘white band’ around Edinburgh Castle. It felt good to be one of them.

Doing the Timewarp for Babies
Last week, after attending the Save the Children bloggers conference, I was inspired to do a post about Build it for Babies – their recently launched campaign to raise money for seven life-saving clinics in Bangladesh.
I wasn’t the only one who was inspired – all the attendees were. Just take a quick peek at the Blog it for Babies website to see the range of activities that bloggers are taking part in all over the country, all with the aim of raising money for the campaign. Everything from cupcakes to naked beach dips to rock choirs.
But here’s some more good news. It’s not just bloggers that are feeling inspired… even the staff at Save the Children are getting in on the action!
I’m thrilled to share this video with you. It’s DorkyDad and some of his colleagues from the Save the Children philanthropy department doing the Timewarp. I will confess to being a bit shocked at how brilliant it is. I’m also really pleased to see that the staff at Save the Children seem to have as much energy, enthusiasm and passion for dressing up as many of their supporters do. Big hurrahs for them!

Given the ever-increasing price of stamps, I can’t imagine that anyone actually sends them through the post anymore, but when I was a wee girl I remember them doing the rounds at school every so often, with the promise of twenty friendship bracelets or twenty mix tapes or twenty Boyzone posters if you kept the chain going…
