Pigs… and Monkeys

It may have been DorkySon’s best day ever.

It was warm and sunny. First of all we walked, then we took a train, and then a taxi.

He wiggled on my knee.

I’m so excited,” he said.

We got out of the taxi, and DorkySon wrinkled his nose up.

What’s that smell?

It’s the animals,” I said.

An Interview with Cherry Healey

A portrait of Cherry Healey, journalist and television Presenter

One of my highlights at BritMums Live was getting the chance to hear and meet television presenter Cherry Healey. Cherry is best known for her BBC3 Documentaries, and her presentation at BritMums – 360 Media – was about the importance of blogging and social media in shaping those programmes.

She was a huge hit with the audience, coming across as very sincere and approachable, and she stuck around afterwards for a good chat with lots of bloggers. It was lovely to see a high profile figure being so generous with their time and attention.

After BritMums, I approached Cherry to ask if she would do a quick interview for me to publish on DorkyMum and she said yes – hurrah! – so here it is.

Project 52: Week 34

20120909-130025.jpg

September is my favourite month of the year. I love the autumn chill that creeps into the air, the leaves starting to turn, and the prospect of tucking ourselves up in preparation for winter.

This month I’ve got my 5th wedding anniversary to look forward to, as well as the MAD Blog awards and some new babies to meet as a few of my friends reach the end of their pregnancies!

In the meantime, I’m going to make the most of these last days of sunshine, playing ‘kick kick’ in the park, and watching dragonflies on the pond with DorkySon.

It’s all good. I feel very lucky.

It Shouldn’t Happen Here

Save the Children UK Campaign

Well, gosh. That’s got people talking, hasn’t it?

Save the Children launched a new fundraising appeal yesterday; the first ever one to raise money to help children living in poverty in the UK. The appeal coincides with a new report ‘It Shouldn’t Happen Here’ which details the experiences of children and parents living in recession-hit Britain.

Every time you started up your computer, opened a paper, turned on the TV or listened to the radio yesterday, there was someone in front of you, sharing their opinion on it.

Slam

BBC Edinburgh Fringe Poetry Slam

I love the fact that DorkyDad is a poet. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen him perform – in venues ranging from libraries to Jazz bars – and I always come away feeling proud and happy.

Except when he’s doing a slam. I hate watching him in slams. That competitive element takes all the joy out of it for me, and rather than being able to support and encourage him I turn into a jangling, fidgeting ball of nerves. Slams have always made me feel a bit sick.
