A Happy Harris Holiday

Imagine, for a moment, that you are a four-year-old boy. Imagine that your favourite things to do are playing with your cars and trucks, spending time with your family, and running around outside to burn off all that energy that you have. Then imagine that you can go on holiday for a week and do all those things, every single day.

Lucky old DorkySon has just had one of the best weeks of his life up on Harris. It is always a pleasure to spend time back on the island that was my childhood home. It is one of those places where the pace of life is slower, where there are only imperceptible changes from year to year, and where I am always greeted like an old friend. It’s an even bigger pleasure for me now to watch DorkySon enjoy the same simple things that I did as a wee girl.

Project 52: Weeks 44-47

Hello hello! We’re back from our holidays.

Thank you so much to all the brilliant guest posters who kept the blog looking busy while I was away stuffing myself with Thanksgiving turkey, and thanks also to everyone who kept visiting, commenting and sharing the posts. I really appreciate it.

I’ll make time to do a proper post about our time away later in the week, but for starters I thought I’d catch up on my Project 52 and share a few photos. At some point in the year I think I missed a week or two by accident, so I’ll take this opportunity to get back on the right schedule.

Week 44 – This wasn’t a bad start to a little boy’s holiday!

Berneray

We headed up to Harris first to visit some of my family, and had a great time.

Holidays

We have just booked our summer holidays for this year, and we can’t wait. We’re having a few days up seeing family in the Western Isles, followed by a week in Edinburgh at the Fringe. I am reminded once again how much my idea of what a holiday is has changed over the years.

A few weeks ago, I did a guest post about holidays for Marianne over at Mari’s World, and she has kindly agreed to let me publish a version of it on my own blog too.

Holidays? I’ve had a few! They change though, don’t they? Not just the places you go, but who you’re with, why you’re going, what you remember…
