The Toy-Stealing Squirrel

We were walking through the park the other day when DorkySon suddenly stopped and let out an ear-piercing shriek.

What is it?” I asked.

There’s a squirrel,” he said, pointing, and shrieked again.

I’m confused. We see squirrels most days on our walks through the park, and they don’t usually provoke any reaction.

What’s wrong with the squirrel?” I asked.

It’s going to steal my toys,” he said, before grabbing my hand and pulling me quickly past.

Reasons to be Cheerful

This is a perfect week for me to take part in Reasons to be Cheerful, because it has been a long week full of frustrating niggles and I’ve been feeling a bit grouchy. I’ve got a broken mobile phone… I’ve been struggling to find out what I’m supposed to do with my tax return… we got a puncture in a pram tyre when we were out shopping the other day… I’ve had two haircuts in ten days and I’m still not happy with it… my computer keeps crashing halfway through me filling out a form for insurance…

It has just been one of those silly weeks where little things have kept cropping up and taking up lots of time and effort to resolve. But it’s so good to keep them in perspective and realise that none of them are actually that big a deal. It’s also good to remember the many positive things we’ve got going on just now.

DorkySon is down for a nap, and I’ve got a cuppa beside me, so here goes; my reasons to be cheerful this week.

My Limited Online Attention Span

For the first time in ages, I was having a wee look at my Flickr account last night. I’m not sure what surprised me more; the fact that I haven’t uploaded any photos since last July, or the fact that even though I haven’t uploaded any photos since last July, I’ve still had about 60,000 views!

There was a time, shortly after I took up photography, when I was never off Flickr. I loved it – joining in groups and discussions, doing basic editing on Picnik, and browsing those millions and millions of beautiful pictures. I got slightly obsessed about checking my stats every day, seeing how many people had looked at my photos, how many comments or favourites I’d had, and where people had been referred from.
