Things We Love!

It’s time for another one of our wee roundups, talking about some of the things that are making us happy at the moment. Most are these are things I’ve just stumbled on or heard about. There is a disclosure statement at the bottom of the post to cover anything that has been sent to me as a review item.

Slinkachu Dead Leaves

Slinkachu: I did a post a few weeks ago about how much I love street art. Slinkachu’s Little People Project is one of my very favourites examples, combining street art installation projects and photography. I challenge you to look through the galleries of Slinkachu’s tiny little people and not have a wee giggle before you fall completely in love with them. The photo above is called Dead Leaves, from January 2012. For lots more like this check out the Slinkachu website and blog (linked previously) or like the Slinkachu page on Facebook.

Review: The Cavendish Hotel

The Cavendish Hotel Jermyn Street London

Occasionally a review opportunity comes up that is impossible to turn down, and a night in the 4* Cavendish Hotel in London was one of those. The Cavendish has been established as a hotel for well over a hundred years, and it is already known and loved as a high-end place, perfect for a couple or a business trip. However, our task was to test out how friendly it was for a family to stay in.

So on Good Friday, DorkyDad, DorkySon and I headed into the big city.

Things We Love Right Now

Every so often I like to do a quick roundup of things that I’m enjoying in life just now – mainly things I’ve encountered by chance, occasionally things I’ve been sent for review. Here is our current love list.

Huckle Shoreditch Barber

Huckle the Barber: I love Shoreditch. It’s a great place to walk around and feel inspired by the street art and the buskers, and it’s full of so many great places to eat and drink. DorkyDad gets his haircut in a place that has recently opened on Old Street – Huckle the Barber – and although they don’t really do kids haircuts we sneaked DorkySon in for a wee trim the other week too. He loved the fact that it was called Huckle – like the character in so many of Richard Scarry’s books – and felt like a real big boy sitting high up in the proper barber’s chair. Is three too young to be a hipster? Continue reading

1,2,3… Lego Duplo Number Train Review

Lego number train

Here are three of DorkySon’s favourite things in the world.

  1. LEGO
  2. Trains
  3. Showing off how well he can count.

I don’t say yes to many review opportunities, but when I was asked if we’d like to try the new LEGO DUPLO Number Train, I could not reply to the email quickly enough. DorkySon loves DUPLO. He will be four at the end of the month. He has some ‘big boy lego’ too. He likes his catamarans and his quad bikes if I’m there to help him, but DUPLO is the stuff he can really get to grips with on his own.

“Yes!” I said. “Yes, we’ll do it! How soon can we do it? Can you deliver it now?”
