PND: My Story

I don’t know what’s come over me. I seem to be in a confessional mood.

Not content with sharing the details of my birth experience last week, I’m now going to post about postnatal depression too. I probably wouldn’t have done this without the prompt of the mental health blog carnival that is being hosted by the magnificent Ellen Arnison from In a Bun Dance. I would encourage you all to pop over there next week to read what other bloggers have to say.

This is going to be a long post, so bear with me. The benefit of waiting three years is that I will (hopefully) write about it more coherently than I could have done at the time.

A Hole in my Jeans

I got a hole in my jeans last night.. The cause was nothing dramatic; just too much time spent crawling around on the floor helping DorkySon build traffic jams. So my beloved pair of Levis now has a big rip across the left knee.

This is not a good thing. Holes in your clothes are never a good thing, but this is a particularly not-good thing because they were my last remaining pair of unripped trousers, so now I have to go clothes shopping. And I hate clothes shopping.

Review: A Love Letter to Abel and Cole

A photograph of many coloured vegetables with the text 'A love letter to Abel and Cole'

I don’t do many reviews on the blog, but every so often a company provides such good service that I feel compelled to write them a big old open love letter. Last to get the DorkyMum full-on-virtual-hug treatment was M&S… now it’s the turn of Abel and Cole.

The 52 Week Project: Week 1

It seems that half the blogosphere are doing the 366 Project this year; the attempt to take a photo every single day in 2012. It’s a brilliant idea, and one I would love to attempt, but I know that it’s too much of a commitment for me. Perhaps if I had a phone with a decent camera I’d give it a shot, but I know that my battered old Nokia isn’t up to the job, and I don’t have the perseverance to take my ‘proper’ camera out with me every day.

Instead I’m going to do the 52 week project, which only requires me to take a photo a week. For accountability’s sake I’ll post it on here every week, but I’m also going to tinker with the rules slightly. Instead of saying that I need to take ‘one photo per week’ I’m saying I need to take photos of ‘at least one thing that isn’t DorkySon or DorkyDad per week’. I do take loads of photos as it is, but they’re almost all of my family. For the purposes of this project, I’m going to try and take photos of different things – objects, places, and other people.

One Born Every Minute: The Dad Episode

I have a confession to make. I’ll whisper it.

*I’ve never actually watched One Born Every Minute.*

When the last series aired, my Facebook news feed was chock-a-block with people’s thoughts on it – from midwife friends who loved it, to hippy friends who hated it, to childless friends who were terrified by it. I think, for me, it was just a little too soon after DorkySon’s arrival and I wasn’t quite ready to reacquaint myself with the workings of a maternity ward.
