Friendship

heart made of leaf

I’ve been pondering the notion of friendship a lot recently, and admitting to myself how hard it sometimes is to have your friends scattered all over the world as we do.

I had a lovely Skype chat with a friend in Australia the other day. I used to schedule those chats for a time when DorkySon was here, but now I wait and do it while he’s at nursery, otherwise the entire hour is taken up by him showing off all the cars in his toybox. We usually manage to catch up every couple of months, and it’s always great to hear how she is settling into her new life, how work is going and all the rest of it. But it’s not quite the same as when we used to sit and watch a chick flick together with a bottle of wine and a pizza. It’s especially hard when there are big things going on in each other’s lives. Celebrating good news (or commiserating about bad news) several weeks after the fact, via computer screen, doesn’t feel quite as effective as an in-person hug!

Bloggers and Charities

Edinburgh poster art

I have seen quite a bit of grumbling recently from bloggers about the volume of charity requests that are dropping into their inboxes. I can only imagine that in the run up to Christmas such requests will become even more frequent.

To be honest, I don’t mind emails from charities too much myself because I have a fairly strict system for dealing with them.

I give the majority of my support to two charities – one big one (Save the Children) and one small one (PiggyBankKids) – and they are the only ones I’ll write about in any detail on the blog.

Feeling Better

smiley face

You know that thing where you don’t realise how cruddy you’ve been feeling until you feel better?

I finally got round to making an appointment with a new acupuncturist a couple of weeks ago, and spent an hour on a Saturday morning having needles stuck in me.

As I usually do afterwards, I then spent the rest of the day feeling pretty drained and exhausted. But the two weeks since then have been something of a revelation.

What are you reading?

street art follow the white rabbit

I am on something of a reading frenzy at the moment. DorkyDad and I are having a few weeks detox, and the nonsense on television every evening is so much less bearable when you’ve not had a glass of wine. So we’ve been turning the TV off and heading to bed at 9pm most nights for an hour of reading before we go to sleep.

My tastes have always been fairly eclectic, but I think with the last ten books I’ve read I may have surpassed myself.

Ten in Ten

I’ve been tagged by lovely Angie over at Cakes Photos Life to do the 10 in 10 meme.

The idea is to write a list of hopes and dreams that you wish to be fulfilled within 10 years. You can make it as simple or as detailed as you like – add pictures, descriptions and how you will achieve these if you can/want.

Start with number 10 and make it the one you think is easiest to achieve, working down to the one that will take the most work, money or just plain impossible.

I found this a toughy… and if I’m honest this is a slightly edited version – some of the things that I really, really want I don’t really want to put up on the blog – I’m a bit daft and superstitious like that! But it has been a really helpful exercise in working out what my personal priorities are.
