There are certain clothing combinations that even a fashion Luddite like me knows are a no-no.
Socks and sandals is one of them.
Unfortunately, as I was getting DorkySon ready for nursery this morning, I was left with no other option than to send him out dressed like this.
He’d got his trainers soaking wet yesterday by splashing in puddles, and despite sitting on a radiator overnight, they were still soggy (and smelly) this morning. His red canvas beach shoes from our February holiday are now two sizes too small, and we gave away his wellies because he refused to wear them. So all I was left with were these new brown sandals that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I thought he might get away with bare toes, but the sandals are still a bit big and it’s chilly out today so he had to wear a pair of chunky red socks too.
Sorry, DorkySon. I promise I won’t do it again.
LOL. This fashion law applies to teens and adults only. Younger than that, they can rock it. Except shorts, socks and crocs. That is just wrong no matter how old you are. Still trying to convince the Big One of that though.
Totally agree!
So far we have managed to avoid crocs…
Hehe, just get rid of the photo and he’ll never know π
Nah, I’m going to bring it out when he brings mates home as a teenager π
We have done socks and sandals for Faith. I always thought you could get away with it with small children.
That seems to be the consensus… I will not beat myself up π
Oh dear. Sure he’ll forgive you. In 15-20 years’ time, when he looks back on what he wore as a child, there’ll be plenty of fashion cringes, I’m sure.
We Mums will argue that our kids were totally fashionable for the 2010’s. But by then, style will have moved on and they’ll be mortified at what we put them in.
My toddlerhood pictures are a sea of brown pinafores and pudding bowl haircuts. Sure it was the height of fashions for the 70s but….. EEEEEEEK!!!
Donna x
Eek indeed! You go through a phase when you look back at these things and think they’re embarrassing, but then I think you come out the other side and realise how cute they are π xx
Lol! I agree with fivegoblogging! Kids can get away with it. I did it all the time, mind you, we’re Canadian, I think we invented socks and sandals π
It’s all your fault! Crazy Canadians!
(Just kidding – we have family there – just trying to remember if I’ve ever seen them rock the socks and sandals look…!!)
π I took H out like that yesterday too! x
Yay! By next year the Mini Boden models will be rocking this look!
That’s adorable!
π thank you!
Hey when I first saw this I thought you meant yourself!!! LOL indeed
Nooooo!
Ha – he’s not going to thank you for this when he’s older. Unless he turns out to be like my dad, that is.
It is entirely possible…!!
have to say, he’s looks adorable so touche to you both for rocking this look and getting away with it x
Hee! Thanks! Xx
I think it’s fine for anyone below puberty. In fact, I hope so because I send my youngest out like that quite often. A it’s too cold to do otherwise and B I’m too stingy to provide shoes and sandals for his rapidly growing feet.
Consensus seems to be that it’s okay for little ones. Relieved that I have not shamed him after all…
